High Heels

Over the years I have worked with a number of females (no males yet but you never know), who have experienced a high degree of back pain, neck pain, altered posture and poor movement patterns due to the regular wearing of high heels.

High heels are a common fashion accessory, many women prefer to wear these type of shoes on a regular basis rather tan trainers or flat shoes. But what is this type of shoe doing to you?

Well, the altered foot position leads to an alteration in the kinetic chain alignment, which can lead to the formation of muscle imbalances throughout the body as the body tries to compensate for the changes in your centre of gravity. Research has shown that for every 1 inch of heel your body can get thrown forward by up to 11 degrees. This is a massive amount and therefore puts massive stress on your body's muscular and skeletal system as it tries to correct itself. This often results in low back pain, neck pain and poor movement.

It is vital that if you like to wear your high heels, but also like to be fit, healthy and pain free you should consult with a appropriately qualified personal trainer and get them to posturally assess you. They will then be able to work on correcting any imbalances you may have and stat to eliminate pain out of your life.

Quick fix?

I am often asked if there is a quick fix to a wide variety of wellbeing problems. Unfortunately in most cases there are not, for example a common problem people come to me with is weight (well fat) control. The modern quick fix society that we live in makes individuals feel that they should be able to click their fingers and it will all change over night. This is far from the case....

Weight loss takes time and effort, and here is the bad news... it is hard work! It is a careful balance of a number of factors, mainly Physical Activity (Exercise/Fitness), Nutrition (Diet) and Lifestyle factors.

Any product, or person who tells you they can make you loose vast amounts of weight and it will be easy or it will happen overnight, well I would love to know their secret. Most times it is an out an out con, other times it is a un-sustainable solution to your problems. This is the case with many wellbeing goals, such as low back pain, improving cardiovascular fitness, increasing flexibility, improving overall health, etc...

Just remember the old saying Good things come to those who wait (and in addition work hard)!
